Jazz Guitar Amp
Jazz guitarists are an interesting bunch. We pine over exquisite and costly guitars. Wonderful, but so acoustically inefficient that to play in an ensemble with other musicians we often require the assistance of another instrument: an amplifier.
Understanding the sonic scope of your guitar and the music you choose to play is integral to defining the correct amplifier for your needs. Your guitar already knows what it wants…listen to it…best unplugged.
Should an electric Jazz guitar fit your musical world, i.e., an "electric archtop" with pickups carved into the instrument, or a solid-body style set up for that concept of the "Jazz sound" you might want to consider single speaker systems housed within a voiced resonant cabinet. Their "frequency windows" are usually tuned to enhance the specific range that complements these types of guitars.
What if you are an "acoustic archtop" player, meaning that your prized guitar is fitted with a floating magnetic pickup? If you've set up your guitar with larger gauge flatwound strings and you normally play with a heavier pick, then you too might prefer the sonic ideals of a traditionally guitar-voiced amp system.
Remember, this list is just a beginning and by no means exclusionary...you may find that your own search leads you toward a more full-frequency range system, an acoustic bass amp or ? Improvising is okay, after all, this is JAZZ!
