background
In 1985 Bassist Stephan Schertler developed a bridge pick-up for the double bass based on electrostatic principles. Hence began Schertler SA. Mendrisio, Switzerland.
Today the Schertler line encompasses a full spectrum of solutions for amplifying acoustic instruments.
description|philosophy
"If you get the feeling during a performance that your instrument, equipped with a SCHERTLER...sounds entirely "acoustic", just as if you were sitting in your living room at home, then I will feel my efforts have been worthwhile - just precisely in that I have added nothing to your sound."
- Stephan Schertler
product line
The Schertler line includes pickups, preamps and amplificaiton..
For amps, Schertler currently markets the 180 watt rms UNICO and 80 watt rms DAVID combos. Both will accomodate instrument and mic inputs, and they can mount on PA poles for dispersing sound into a room. The Pub 280 is a 280 watt rms powered speaker cabinet that can double for amplifying acoustic bass and controlled by a preamp.
Schertler pickups include the bridge mounted electrostatic series STAT models for violin family instruments and BLUESTiCK for guitar plus the surface mounted Basik for multiple applications. The well known Schertler DYN series "pickups" are actually miniature dynamic microphones that use an inert putty to temporarily attach to the surface of an acoustic instrument...without marring fine finishes or woods.
Schertler makes two preamps: the volume only STAT-Pre and full-featured PRE-A III. These are used to power the electrostatic pickup elements and modulate/EQ the signal.
warranty
2 years to the original owner.
client opinions
Schertler combos, amps and preamps are increasingly popular with acoustic musicians. Stringed instruments in particular sound clear and open with a full bass.
